Bridget Macklin Demonstration Day
Saturday 1st Febuary 10.30am – 4pm
Bridget mixes clay and other found material into porcelain. It is these unrefined found materials which give the work colour and texture. She delights in experimenting and in taking risks, repeatedly refining a piece, striving for thinner or more lustrous work, exploring new techniques and taking risks.
Her work is high fired which causes tension between the pure porcelain and the other materials which have been incorporated. This results in intriguing textures, craters, blisters and exploded splinters of rock. She has described opening her kiln as sometimes feeling like Armageddon and yet at others like reaching the highest pinnacle of what is possible.
During this day she will show how she works with found clays to create different effects and will demonstrate the exciting and unpredictable method of creating fascinating textures by throwing the clay across the bench. It promises to be an entertaining session in which she will also explain how she fell into ceramics by accident and never looked back.
