Joanna Howells

Many thanks to Annie Hardy for her review of the Joanna Howells workshop and for the photos.  Excellent feedback from those who attended…inspirational and a real insight into her techniques…..Joanna is clearly someone who is passionate about her craft.

The day began with a quick demonstration on how to easily wedge 10 kilos of clay. This was to form the main body of the large pot.

We then saw slides of Joanna’s work after which she began throwing the large pot. In between drying times for the large pot Joanna also demonstrated how to throw a jug, a square box and a teapot. Her presentation was very clear and informative and she shared many valuable tips on everything from the kind of porcelain to buy to successful glazing.

Everyone had brought a contribution towards a wonderful lunch – the sun came out so some of us sat out in the yard. It was a extremely informative and enjoyable day!
