Majolica Decoration Workshop with Myra McDonnell #2
Due to very popular demand Myra McDonnell is running another Majolica Decorating Workshop. This is a follow up to the course held in May, but is also suitable for beginners. The results from the first workshop were outstanding, so book quick if you would like to give it a go.
Have you wanted to perfect (or begin to learn) some professional decorating techniques?
Or learn some useful tips about colour blending? Come along to a DECORATING DAY
on Saturday July 22nd, 10am – 3.30/4pm
Our Monday tutor Myra McDonnell will be running a day workshop focusing on ‘onglaze majolica decoration’. Having spent her life as a decorating potter in the industry and studio pottery world, her knowledge is extensive and this will be an interesting and inspiring session.
In the morning you will discuss the history, demonstrate and trial various techniques.
After lunch you will decorate pieces for firing.
Choice and use of brushes and preparation of pigments and stains is included.
You will get the opportunity to try sponge, banding and pouncing (design transfer) along with traditional brush work and anything else there is time for like resist, scraffito and easy lettering.
Though you will be using Aldermaston’s tin glaze as the base, these techniques can be transferred to stoneware and this will be discussed.
If you want to use a stoneware glaze you can use WSP’s FH7 glaze. Stoneware bisque can be used with my tin glaze, but with the possibility of pinging later!
Plain bisque plates and brushes will be available, but bring your own bisque bowls and brushes for your final pieces.
Work will be fired and returned to West Street Potters for collection.
This class will be for 8 people only at a cost of £45 payable on booking. Please contact Rachel to book, email: weststreetpotters@btinternet.com
The Farnham Pottery café will be open or bring your own lunch.
