West Street Potters join Farnham Lantern Festival
West Street Potters joined the first Lantern Festival in Farnham that took place on Thursday October 31st, walking with their lit lanterns to St Andrew’s Church.
‘The inspiration for the Festival was the significant Celtic celebration which marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It falls between the Autumn and Winter equinoxes and marks the passing of time, taking stock of the past and looking forward to the future. Traditionally it is a time to remember loved ones who have recently died, and celebrate babies who have been recently born, recognising the cycle of life’ (Farnham Craft Town).
Julia Quigley cleverly put a WSP twist on our lanterns, in that ours were made out of porcelain paper clay instead of paper. The paper in the Porcelain makes the fired clay very light and translucent while also very strong. The lanterns will shortly return to West Street Potters, at the Farnham Pottery, where they will be hung for all to admire at their Winter Exhibition on 16th-17th November. Do come along to the exhibition to see them and many other wonderful works by our members.
