Heritage Open Days 11th – 14th September
Heritage Open Days celebrates the fantastic architecture and culture that England has to offer by offering free access to places that are normally either closed to the public or would make a charge for admission. Heritage Open Days celebrates what makes local communities and neighbourhoods special by stimulating curiosity and discover and connecting people with their local places and helps foster a sense of belonging and pride. For four days every September, buildings of all age, style and function welcome the public for this once a year chance to discover and explore architectural treasures, take part in tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life.
This year, Farnham is celebrating ‘Brick’ and a programme of events and activities has been created to highlight not only Farnham Pottery’s past importance within the community, but to bring it to its place for the future.
THURSDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER:
Events at the Farnham Pottery will start with drinks and ‘Façades in Focus’ a terracotta talk by terracotta expert Amy Frankie Smith at 6.30pm.

SATURDAY 13th & SUNDAY 14th SEPTEMBER:
The studios and workshops of 318 Ceramics, West Street Potters, Farnham Sculpture Group and the Pugmill Bakehouse will be open from 10am until 4pm both Saturday and Sunday.
During this time, visitors will be able to watch potters at work and learn about the workings of a new wood fired brick oven housed where clay was once ‘pugged’. There will also be demonstrations by stone and wood carvers.
Throughout the day, there is the opportunity to view and buy work on show that is made at the pottery by course participants and tutors from 318 Ceramics and West Street Potters, alongside other crafts and artisan products from the other organisations and businesses based at the Pottery.
Over the weekend, visitors are welcomed to the historical pottery exhibition alongside which talks and a guided heritage terracotta trails take place at 11am and 3pm each day.
WORKSHOPS:
To compliment the Heritage Open Days programme, on both Saturday and Sunday there will be pre-bookable workshops hosted by 318 Ceramics and West Street Potters in Traditional Brick Making and Decoration. The Pugmill Bakehouse will be running and a Corn Spirits and Harvest Lords workshop.
